St Ives Archive Study Centre is a valuable resource for the town housing valuable papers and thousands of photographs from St Ives past and present including many of St Ives Town Council historic documents.
The Archive Centre is run entirely by committed volunteers and is self funded with regular coffee mornings to highlight their work and with the aid of small grants. It is continually looking at new ways to progress the centre’s work and sustainability, and the regular publication of books and booklets is just one.
This spring saw the launch of ‘St Ives Then and Now’ (£15) published by History Press. This attractive soft back volume in colour, combines nearly 50 carefully selected old images from the resources vast database. It also displays a similar number of present day photos, illustrating the dramatic changes in St Ives.
St Ives Rotary Club has recently become involved in the centre’s drive to get local businesses involved and are sponsoring the ‘Discover St Ives Map’ (£2). This informative map has proved popular with visitors and locals alike. The map is a self guided tour through the historic heart of the town, describing nearly 40 notable locations, and is charmingly illustrated with short historical paragraphs.
The ‘St Ives Town Map‘ (£1) has proved so popular its now on its third print run! Part sponsored by Tregenna Castle Hotel, this straightforward map of the town includes some historical photographs and makes a memorable souvenir.
Finally, newly released is their popular 2015 Calender, which this year is ‘St Ives 100 Years Ago’ (£7). Once again, the centre volunteers have trawled the centre photo database to find the best images for this period.
