Gardens and plots ‘just oozed with dedication and passion’ in St Ives’ popular annual garden competition
With St Ives enjoying some blooming good weather for gardeners and allotment holders earlier this year, gardeners, young and old, got down to earth to produce some stunning displays across the district – probably some of the best ever with long warm temperatures of unbroken sunshine.
At a ceremony and reception in the Council Chamber of St Ives Town Council on Tuesday 4th November, the winners of the ten classes and other events staged earlier in the year were presented with the trophies and prizes (mixed seeds donated by Wyevale Garden Centre Lelant) by the Mayor of St Ives, Councillor Linda Taylor. The judge was Louise Todd of Lelant who knew her onions when it came to gardens, having been a Chelsea Flower show past winner. Louise Todd said ” Every garden and plot we visited just oozed with dedication and passion. Our gardens are highly personal places. I admired and took pleasure in all that everyone achieved. Public communal places are so important too for communities as well and to those people and our allotment holders who have taken it upon themselves to push these areas forward. It takes a generosity of time and spirit and we hope they all go forward to seeing the endeavours of the 2015 entrants.”
