Entry forms for St Ives Town Council’s annual garden competition are now available, and this year the event has a few different twists.

Cll.WilliamsAs Town Councillor Tamsyn Williams explains, “The town council felt that the event needed fresh impetus so, instead of gardeners nominating themselves, we are inviting the public to put forward other people’s gardens, private or commercial.  The exception is Trowan allotment site where all the allotment holders will be entered automatically. This is a bit of an experiment to see if the idea sparks more entrants.  You might want to check though that the gardener in question is willing.”

For the first time, the winners will receive not only certificates or cups but also modest prizes which have been donated by Wyevale Garden Centre, Lelant.

The categories, slightly altered from before, are as follows:

1.   Best Garden in St Ives
2.   Best Garden in Carbis Bay
3.   Best Garden in Halsetwon
4.   Best Garden in Lelant
5.   Best Window Box/Hanging Basket
6.   Best Street/ Urban area/ Communal area
7.   Best Commercial Premises
8.   Best Licensed Premises
9.   Best Wildlife Garden
10.  Best Allotment
11.  Most Creative Allotment
12.  Best Newcomer Allotment
