In the first of its twice yearly ‘Free For All’ an event now in its fourth year and now has become a bit of an institution in St Ives in which local people can dispose of items of anything they longer find a use for and at the same time finding something they do; St Ives Town Council found once again at the Guildhall concert hall on Saturday (10th) proved just as popular as ever with around 100 people including whole families queuing from 9am eager for the doors to open sharp at 10am.
Mayor Ron Tulley along with other Town Councillors stood by as within just over twenty minutes the hall was virtually cleared. of everything which included kitchen sinks! (3) other items ranged from clothing, books, surf boards, kitchen items, crockery, furniture, books, toys, and a mountain of puzzles and games. The event now organized in March and October each year first caught the local public imagination in March 2009. Commenting after tables were being put away and the few surplus items bagged up ready for its final journey to St Erth recycling centre. Councillor Tulley said “It is amazing how much local people look forward to this now, rather than take their unwanted items to land fill it is gratifying to see so many have found something of need. As soon as we can confirm a firm date for the next one in early October we will certainly let people know “
