Town Mayor, Councillor Linda Taylor, continued to uphold the traditional Mayor’s Civic Sunday on 21 September 2014.
Uniformed organisations of the St Ives area, along with civic representatives of the town council, Cornwall Council, neighbouring parishes, town organisations, and those that serve the town all joined the civic procession which was co-ordinated by Parade Marshall Mr Philip Lander K.St.J. The parade gathered at the Guildhall and then, led by Pendeen Silver Band, walked through the town to the Salvation Army Hall on Wharf Road.
The Mayor’s Civic Service was led by the Mayor’s Chaplain – this year a role fulfilled jointly by Lieutenants Mark and Ellie Read. The Standards from the uniformed organisations were accepted at the start of the service. The Bible Reading by the Mayor was followed by hymns and thoughtful words from the Chaplains. The service concluded with the National Anthem.
Following the procession held in beautiful September sunshine, and an uplifting Service, during the refreshments provided the Mayor took the opportunity to thank those gathered and those involved in the organisation of the event for their support for this traditional event.
